OIL PUMP

The function of a car’s engine Oil Pump is to circulate engine oil to the bearings, pistons and camshaft in motion. Lubrication of these parts is essential to maintain their function in the engine. In the event of a failure, check the surrounding engine Oil Pump parts for damage as well.

Look out for symptoms of a bad Engine Oil Pump.

A faulty engine Oil Pump will trigger the Engine Symbol at the dashboard. Listen out for any noises coming from the engine area, which are likely produced due to a lack of lubrication.

And as the faulty Oil Pump is not able to generate the pressure required to draw engine oil for circulation within the engine, friction from the moving parts will create a temperature that is higher than usual within the engine. Check if the dashboard indicates a high engine temperature.  The low oil pressure might also result in the car not being able to start.
