TIMING GEAR
The function of the car’s Timing Gear is to work in time with the engine such that the valves will open and close at the best times to fill the cylinder with an optimal amount of air and fuel mix.
This section comprises of components such as the Timing Belt or Timing Chain, Oil Seals and Gears.
The Timing Belt or Chain rotates the Camshaft and Crankshaft which in turn, drives the engine valves and pistons to move in sync.
The Timing Gear Cover is essential to keep particles away from the spinning Timing Belt or Chain, which may disrupt rotations of the camshaft and crankshaft.
Look out for symptoms pointing to problems with the Timing Gear section.
A worn gasket between the Timing Gear Cover and the engine block will cause engine oil to leak to the ground below it.
If the engine feels rough, dust and debris might have entered the Timing Gear section, and spread to the rotating camshaft and crankshaft. If this problem persists, an engine failure may be inevitable. Look out for the Engine Symbol on the dashboard.
