A Car’s Alternator functions as a generator to generate electrical energy to the vehicle’s system and charges the battery.
The car’s engine spins the wheels which in turn cranks the wheel on the Alternator, generating energy.
What are the signs of a bad alternator?
A direct way to know would be the warning signal on the dash. The symbol should be the one which resembles a battery or which reads “GEN” or “ALT”.
However if the warning symbol is not lit, look out for these symptoms of a bad Alternator.
The lights may start to dim and gauges on the dash stop working. And if the alternator belt is faulty, there may be a screeching sound coming from the engine area.
