STARTER

The function of a Starter Motor in the car is to crank an internal combustion engine to start in order to ignite its own power.

Look out for symptoms of a bad Starter Motor.

Listen out for a clicking sound or grinding noise upon ignition.

If the engine does not power up while the dashboard lights up, and shows no signs of resurrection even via a jump start, it likely indicates a Starter Motor failure.

A problematic Starter Motor will might also create smoke from consecutive attempts to start the engine. As the Starter is linked to the car’s electrical systems, it gets overheated under such circumstances.

Excessive leakage of engine oil falling on the Start Motor may contribute to its failure as well. Do a visual check on the areas surrounding the Starter for any obvious oil leaks. A periodic check will go a long way.

Toyota Starter Motors are available online.
