CRANKSHAFT

The Crankshaft is a rotating shaft in the internal combustion engine. Pistons are connected to the Crankshaft by Connecting Rods.

The function of the Crankshaft is to convert the liner motion of the Pistons into rotational motion, and is connected to the Connecting Rods by cranks and crankpins.

The Crankshaft is rotated by main bearings, while the crankpins rotate within the connecting rods using rod bearings.

A lack of oil pressure will result in the journals on the crankshaft wearing out as they make contact with the main bearing while on rotation. A serious wear can result in an engine damage. A crack on the crankshaft may also occur, as a result of high pressured forces being applied to the engine.
